Talking to Spanish newspaper Marca , the race director adamantly suggested that a decision must be made prior to the Vuelta's start in Malaga on 25th August stating, 'What I want is to have a resolution. 'What is absolutely necessary is to know who won the 2017 Vuelta for the 2018 Vuelta start.'
