Tour de France: Tom Dumoulin gets 20 second time penalty for drafting

Joe Robinson 12 Jul 2018 The Dutchman suffered a puncture in the closing stages and was forced to chase back onto the peloton Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) has been handed a 20 second time penalty for drafting his team car after puncturing in the final kilometres of Stage 6 at the Tour de France , finishing on the Mur de Bretagne. This sees the Dutchman concede 1 minute 13 seconds to stage winner Dan Martin (UAE-Team Emirates) and over a minute to his other General Classification rivals. Dumoulin suffered an ill-timed front wheel puncture on the approach to the base of the Mur de Bretagne as the peloton raced into the final few kilometres. After a lethargic wheel change, the 27-year-old began to chase back onto the bunch with help from teammates Chad Haga, Laurens Ten Dam and Edward Thuens.
