Team Sky's new owner linked to £77m football takeover bid

Joe Robinson 5 Apr 2019 Britain's richest man also linked to £2.5 billion purchase of Chelsea FC New Team Sky owner Jim Ratcliffe is on the hunt to expand his sporting portfolio as it was confirmed the billionaire has launched a bid to buy French football club OCG Nice. Reported by the Daily Mirror , the boss of multinational chemical and oil company Ineos had a £77 million offer to purchase the club turned down by current owners but is currently preparing a second, improved bid having sent his brother Robert Ratcliffe to the city for talks with Nice's Mayor, Christian Estrosi. Ratcliffe, who is now a Monaco resident having relocated from the UK to reduce his personal tax bill, already owns Swiss football side Lausanne while he was recently linked with a potential takeover bid of Chelsea FC in the Premier League.
