Shimano acquires Pioneer's power meters business
Joe Robinson 6 Feb 2020 Groupset giants purchase cycling division from Pioneer Japanese groupset giant Shimano has expanded its power meter business with the acquisition of Pioneer's cycle division. Agreed in December of last year ahead of a transition in March, Pioneer confirmed that it had relinquished ownership of its 'pedalling monitors, cycle computers and other related products' to Shimano. Shimano will now sell all Pioneer power meter and computer products while taking ownership of Pioneer's Cyclo-Sphere website with the eventual aim of transferring it onto Shimano's own platform. Pioneer will not cut ties immediately as it will sell the remainder of its current stock until sold out and offer free servicing on all products still under warranty.
